Grafton Regional landfill is one of only a few landfills in the Northern Rivers that can lawfully accept your asbestos waste and is the only place in the Clarence Valley that will do so. Asbestos will not be accepted at Waste Transfer Stations. It is illegal to dispose of asbestos waste in domestic garbage bins. It is also illegal to recycle, re-use, or illegally dump asbestos products.  Don’t risk a $5000 fine or prosecution with penalties up to $1 million. Bagging and wrapping Asbestos will only be accepted at the Grafton Regional landfill if it is double-bagged or double-wrapped in 200micron heavy duty plastic sheeting and sealed with duct tape. Used PPE should also be sealed within the plastic bags or sheeting. Landfill disposal booking Notification of each load for disposal must be lodged with the Grafton Regional Landfill weighbridge 24 hours prior to arrival. Notifications can be lodged by: 1. Email: cws@clarence.nsw.gov.au Notification must include the deliverer’s name, contact phone number, quantity of asbestos and expected time of arrival. Stay up to date with current asbestos disposal costs at www.clarence.nsw.gov.au Landfill asbestos acceptance hours  Asbestos will only be accepted at the Grafton Regional Landfill between the hours of 8.00am & 2.00pm Monday to Friday. Asbestos will not be accepted on weekends or public holidays. Asbestos acceptance is also subject to weather conditions. Household asbestos tetsing kits If you suspect asbestos in your home, please handle it with care and test a sample before renovating. Tetsing kits are available in our Grafton and Maclean customer service centres. Household asbestos disposal kits For the homeowner wishing to remove <10sq metres of asbestos, Household Asbestos Disposal Kits are available from our customer service centres in Grafton and Maclean.

Your help in reporting information relating to illegally dumped materials is important. Household rubbish bags overflowing from public places, mattresses and old furniture left in a nearby park or in the bush- help stop illegal dumping in your area, by reporting incidents on-line now.

National Recycling Week occurs annually during the second week of November. The aim is to remind us of the importance of resource recovery through recycling. The Great Aussie Waste Challenge aims to share practical environmentalism which all of us can use in our everyday lives. Members who sign up for the facebook based Challenge can do so from the comfort of their own kitchen, where the recycling journey actually begins.  It’s this simple….at the start of the Challenge, you take a quick survey to review how much you’re sending to landfill via your red landfill bin. Then at the end of the Challenge, there’s another survey to assess how much you were able to divert from your red landfill bin and recover for recycling. Along the way you will receive tips, ideas and support to help you improve recycling habits and reduce your environmental footprint. You will be able to ask questions and share your own tips or hacks around the house. The Clarence Valley 2 week Red Bin Challenge #1 happened during April 2022 and was available to the first 50 families/households who signed up.  Clarence Valley - Two Week Red Bin Challenge #2 happened from September 15 2023. Thank you to all those who took part and renewed their commitment to reducing waste to landfill.

Earth Hour has grown to become much more than switching your lights off, but that iconic switch-off moment is still an important part of Eart Hour. In 2026, we'll be celebrating the 20th year of Eart Hour! Millions of people around the world will switch off their lights at 8.30pm on Saturday 28 March 2026 to demonstrate their support for the environment.
